Chapter 301: In the Name of Miracle
Chapter 301: In the Name of Miracle
Walter gasped, what on earth was this? Even though he wasn’t the builder of this factory, he could deduce with little effort that it was impossible for a mechanical arm to be installed in the ventilation shaft!
Dr. Wei was also taken aback, but his focus was on the hollow eye sockets of the other party, "You... are you also using your body for experiments?"
Lin Qing didn’t answer.
She pointed to the glass jar in the project manager’s arms, "Hand it over."
Wei Hefan was stunned for a moment, then hastily handed over the two jars, his heart pounding—he realized today might be the most unbelievable day of his life.
Lin Qing opened the jar and took out the wet sample from the saline solution. It didn’t look like a real eyeball at all. In the center was a glass-like material, and inside, densely arranged microcircuits could be seen; the outer shell was a composite of silicone and artificial protein, feeling like a rubber ball when squeezed.
Theoretically, it wasn’t plug-and-play but required a professional neural suturing surgery to install it on a human body. Apparently, the doctor found this method too cumbersome and directly installed a "socket" in his eye socket, which was quite close to the concept of later prosthetics.
"This is a defective product, and I need to fix it." Lin Qing said once more in Chinese.
The mechanical arm descended for a second time, taking the two failed items away.
Moments later, the strange object gave an answer, "The repair of this item exceeds the current equipment level, and an upgrade is necessary."
Lin Qing was not surprised by this result.
N959’s repair capability was closely related to the resources it had access to; the effect of controlling an ordinary house versus a steel factory was completely different. Although this experimental factory had introduced many advanced devices, trying to bridge a gap of ten to twenty years in technology was still too much to ask.
"Then upgrade it."
"Can I drive everyone out?" Requiem asked.
"No." Lin Qing immediately refused, "In the future, you have to work with these people and conceal yourself to avoid them discovering anything unusual."
It actually let out a sigh, "Alright... I understand, I’ll treat them as internal parasites. Well then... commence upgrade."
A massive upheaval occurred immediately.
In the machining area, the fire alarm suddenly went off.
People quickly evacuated the work area, prepared to put out the fire, only to find the alarm abruptly stopped, with no sign of fire outside.
Thirty-one-year-old machinist Charlie grumbled and returned to the workshop, only to be shocked by the scene in front of him.
A huge multi-axis CNC machine had disappeared into thin air!
It was a massive piece of equipment weighing dozens of tons. It wasn’t just a matter of moving it out; even dismantling it would take half a day.
Now it was indeed gone, and from the shape of the dust on the ground, it seemed to have vanished instantly, leaving only a clean floor.
"There’s a ghost!" Charlie screamed at the top of his lungs.
In the kitchen area, fifty-four-year-old farmer Harvey was about to catch some live chickens from the coop outside to make soup. The chef had said a big boss was touring the factory today, and they needed fresh ingredients. Free-range hens were an excellent choice, evidently. As soon as he got to the barnyard, he saw an excavator scoop up the entire chicken coop and turn towards the warehouse.
"Damn, are you blind? How dare you touch my chickens!"
Those chickens fetched fifty dollars a piece when sold to the company!
He didn’t understand any high technology, and the only reason he was working here was that he happened to live nearby. As compensation for the land, the company not only offered him a job but also purchased his idle fish pond and chicken farm. While Harvey didn’t understand why the company’s offer was so generous, only a fool would turn down money. Raising fish and chickens earned more than a salary...
So, it wasn’t the chicken coop being taken away, but a heap of cash!
Harvey grabbed a pitchfork and rushed over.
Yet there seemed to be no one in the excavator.
Through the glass, he saw the cockpit was empty, with only some cables coiled on the dashboard.
Where did these cables come from?
He followed the cables with his eyes across the grass, noticing they disappeared inside the factory.
At that moment, something bumped into his right foot.
Looking down, Harvey found it was a toy car, also dragging a cable behind it.
"Damn, scared me to death, which bastard—"
Before he could finish, the car abruptly discharged a powerful electric current, shocking Harvey into passing out.
In the warehouse area, a large number of newly assembled toy cars scattered like ants, each about twenty centimeters square, consisting of a flat board and four wheels. These cars deftly wedged themselves into the corners of storage boxes, lifting and transporting them like ants moving homes.
No one knew where these boxes full of raw materials were being taken.
The entire experimental factory was like a huge mouth, relentlessly devouring the resources it needed.
Steel, aluminum, copper, lead... rubber, cotton, oil... bones, flesh, fat...
They were fused and reorganized, crafting everything the strange object required.
"Mr. Walter, there seems to be a big problem outside!" A guard anxiously knocked on the door.
Walter glanced at the indifferent Lin Qing and did not let him in, "What is the problem? Speak directly."
"Uh... the monitoring room is reporting a failure; all surveillance is down. There was also a false alarm at the machining area, and when deactivated, a worker screamed that a machine had disappeared for no reason. Also... two movers reported hearing strange noises from the warehouse, and when they tried to open the door to check, it was locked from the inside. Plus... people have been found unconscious from electric shocks in various parts of the factory. We suspect the place is under enemy attack, and they may have already infiltrated the factory grounds!"
"What about the patrolling guards?"
"They reported everything as normal... No disturbances noticed around."
"Alright." Walter had already made a guess at the cause of the situation, "Arrange medical attention for those who fainted; leave the rest of the matters alone."
"But..." The guard hesitated.
"Do as I say!" Walter commanded with an unyielding tone, finally making the person at the door disperse.
Lin Qing maintained an expressionless face but gave a displeased glance at the camera with her eyes.
Then she received a message on her phone.
It was from Requiem, sounding a bit aggrieved, "I’ve tried to control the commotion... you didn’t let me drive them out. Under such conditions, it’s impossible not to draw any attention, but all impacts are controlled to a ’haunting’ level. These people will forget about it in a few days."
A haunting that could lead to electric shock?
But Lin Qing couldn’t be bothered to argue with it; if anyone remained fixated on the day’s anomalies, Walter would handle it.
The look on the boss’s face suggested he had probably realized this factory was no longer the same.
About ten more minutes passed, and the mechanical arm descended in front of Lin Qing under the watchful eyes of the two, with three prosthetic eyes between its fingertips. After installing hers, Lin Qing dumped the remaining two into a jar and handed it to Dr. Wei.
"Try it." She said concisely.
Theoretically, this defective product was not usable anymore—it’s neural connection mechanism had dissolved during testing, and now it could only serve as a showpiece. Furthermore, the eyeball that had been sterile in saline had now traversed dusty ventilation ducts and been handled by Lin Qing. Normally, no one would want to implant something like this into their eye socket.
Nonetheless, Dr. Wei didn’t hesitate to open the internal partition of his metal eye socket and inserted one inside.
A miracle appeared.
He felt a tingling sensation in his eye, and the half-missing field of vision began receiving new signals... lines of connection codes emerged in the darkness, akin to stars lighting up the night. Eventually, all diagnostics reduced to one sentence: "Connection Successful."
In an instant, the lost picture returned to his mind!
