Chapter 539 – Prohibition Spiritual Imprint
Chapter 539 – Prohibition Spiritual Imprint
Leyvi carefully selected a memory that contained the shady figure and attempted to use one of the Memory Hunter techniques specifically designed to restore blurred or damaged memories.Unfortunately, it failed. While the surrounding details in the memory became clearer, the shady figure itself remained completely unchanged, still heavily obscured, as if wrapped in an impenetrable layer of fog.
He tried another technique, attempting to match the silhouette outline with other people appearing in the Holy Son's memories. But he soon gave up on that approach as well. There were simply too many people stored in the memories, and the silhouette itself might have been deliberately altered.
He even allowed the memory to play out naturally, hoping to catch how the Holy Son addressed this mysterious person. Yet even the voice was censored. No useful information could be extracted at all.
Hmm… what should I do now? Leyvi thought, his consciousness staring intently at the blurred figure within the memory.
Then, an idea came to him. This censoring seemed like something artificially attached to the memory itself. Perhaps he could forcefully remove it. And the best tool for that was his Spiritual Touch ability. After all, Spiritual Touch allowed him to interact with both tangible and intangible things.
Without hesitation, Leyvi focused his mind. He began condensing and folding his spiritual sense layer by layer, shaping it into an invisible hand.
As he did so, he could feel the Holy Son's Sea of Consciousness growing more unstable. The space around him trembled and flickered. He had no choice but to form the hand much more slowly and carefully than usual.
He had already expected this would happen. Simply searching through memories with spiritual sense put considerable strain on the target's consciousness. Using a more powerful mental technique inside it would naturally put even greater pressure on it.
But Leyvi did not care.
He had no intention of letting the Holy Son live anyway. This man had far too much innocent blood on his hands. The things Leyvi had witnessed in his memories were sickening. Thankfully, he had Selene who could help heal and calm his mind afterward. Otherwise, his mental state might have been negatively affected after seeing so much darkness.
The real problem now was whether the Holy Son's consciousness could hold on long enough for him to uncover the identity of the shady figure before it completely collapsed.
Moments later, Leyvi successfully formed the invisible hand with his condensed spiritual sense. Without hesitation, he reached out and made contact with the shady figure inside the memory.
It worked. The censor was indeed something that had been artificially attached to the memory itself.
Not wanting to waste any time, Leyvi grabbed the blurry figure firmly and began trying to peel it away. He could feel how stubbornly it clung to the memory, almost as if it had roots embedded deep within.
He exerted more force, pulling harder. The entire consciousness space immediately started trembling violently.
Dammit! It won't hold much longer! Why is this thing so difficult to remove?
Realizing he was running out of time, Leyvi poured even more power into the invisible hand. As the censor finally began to peel away, a piercing, ear-splitting screech suddenly echoed throughout the entire space. The sound was so intense that it caused the whole memory space to shatter instantly. Memories started collapsing and disappearing at a frightening speed.
WHAT?? There's something else in here!
Leyvi was genuinely shocked. He had not expected that something would actively destroy the entire memory space just to prevent him from uncovering the identity of this mysterious person.
Since the space was already collapsing rapidly, he did not dare to stay any longer. He quickly withdrew his spiritual sense and returned to the wider Sea of Consciousness.
There, he saw the Holy Son's mental avatar, the core that held all his memories, beginning to dissipate rapidly. The man was dying.
But then, something unexpected happened.
Dark, viscous substances suddenly emerged from the crumbling avatar. They gathered together in mid-air and slowly took form, eventually solidifying into the exact same shady figure Leyvi had seen in the memories.
Leyvi's eyes narrowed in surprise.
He had not expected that the censoring itself was actually some sort of entity all along.
The dark entity did not hesitate. It flew straight toward Leyvi's spiritual sense and latched onto it tightly.
Dammit! What the hell is this thing? Leyvi thought in alarm. It can actually make direct contact with my spiritual sense!
The shady figure suddenly split open like a grotesque mouth and chomped down hard on his spiritual sense. A sharp, stinging pain immediately shot through Leyvi's mind. It was not unbearable, but the sensation was deeply unsettling.
This fucking thing! It's trying to devour my spiritual sense!
Leyvi wanted to retreat his spiritual sense immediately, but he could not risk it while the entity was still attached. There was a chance it might follow him back into his own Sea of Consciousness. He was not willing to take that gamble.
Hmph! I was holding back my strength earlier because I didn't want the space to collapse too quickly. But now it doesn't matter anymore.
Leyvi focused his will and unleashed his Spiritual Pressure from all directions. He compressed the force heavily, squeezing the shady figure with overwhelming power.
Screech!
A horrifying, painful screech echoed inside the collapsing space. Leyvi could clearly feel the entity struggling in agony. He continued pouring more pressure until the dark figure was completely crushed and obliterated into nothingness.
At the same time, the Holy Son's Sea of Consciousness finally collapsed entirely.
Without wasting another moment, Leyvi withdrew his spiritual sense completely and returned to his own body.
The moment he opened his eyes, Leyvi's legs gave out and he fell backward onto his butt. His mental stamina was severely drained. Cold sweat soaked through his clothes. He had not expected any of this to happen. The encounter had taken far more out of him than he anticipated.
"Leyvi, are you alright?" Anda asked worriedly as she hurried over and supported his body.
She had already noticed something was wrong when Leyvi suddenly started sweating heavily earlier.
"I'm fine," Leyvi said, still sitting on the floor. "But we need to return immediately. I need Selene. This guy is far worse than I thought. If I sleep like this, I might have nightmares."
He desperately needed to cleanse his mind from everything he had seen inside the Holy Son's memories. The trauma was much heavier than he had anticipated. He had expected it to be around the same level as what he saw from the Alchemic Knights, but it was significantly more disturbing and sickening.
The legendary bamboo shoot could improve and heal one's spiritual sense while also calming the mind, but it could not properly deal with deep mental trauma. Thankfully, Selene's healing power was capable of handling it. If not for her, Leyvi would not dare to use the soul searching technique so frequently.
He made a mental note that the next time he planned to perform soul searching, he should always bring Selene along. Unexpected things could happen again.
"Huu… We are already on the way back," Anda said, clearly relieved that Leyvi was physically okay. "What exactly happened just now?"
Leyvi took a moment to steady himself, then quickly narrated everything he had experienced inside the Holy Son's Sea of Consciousness. He expressed genuine regret about failing to uncover the identity of the mysterious person hidden behind the shady figure.
"Alita, do you know what that thing was?" Anda asked.
Alita immediately materialized in front of them in her usual graceful manner.
"I do," she replied. "That thing is a spiritual imprint."
"A spiritual imprint?" Leyvi frowned, finding it hard to believe. "That didn't look like any spiritual imprint I've ever heard of."
"That is because it was not a normal spiritual imprint," Alita explained patiently. "It is a prohibition spiritual imprint, specifically created to prevent others from looking up certain information. However, considering that it could actively attack you, it must have been a very sophisticated and powerful one."
"Hmph," Anda said proudly, puffing out her chest a little. "But in the end, it still got destroyed by my husband. That weird spiritual imprint's owner must have been injured by its destruction."
Alita shook her head gently. "Not really. Prohibition spiritual imprints are usually independent constructs. They carry pre-programmed wills and are not mentally connected to the owner like the spiritual imprints you place on your spirit beasts. They are designed to perish with the person they inhabit. So even if the imprint is destroyed, it will not affect the owner directly. However, the owner also won't be aware that it has been destroyed."
"Fuh… That means the owner won't know that I performed a soul search on him, right? I'm safe," Leyvi asked, seeking confirmation.
"Yes. They will not know," Alita confirmed.
Leyvi let out a breath of relief. He had been worried that his identity might somehow be exposed, but thankfully that was not the case.
However, one thing was now certain in his mind. There was definitely something sinister happening behind the scenes. If even the Holy Son of one of the most influential sects in the continent had such a powerful prohibition spiritual imprint planted in him, then the situation was far more complicated and dangerous than it first appeared.
Leyvi could not help but curse his luck inwardly. He had gotten involved in someone else's trouble once again. Why did he even feel the need to uncover that person's identity in the first place? That was exactly the definition of being a busybody!
Oh my lord, family motto… I've sinned again. My impulsive curiosity got the better of me.
He looked at the Holy Son's corpse with clear annoyance. It was all because of this bastard. He simply wanted to mind his own business and live peacefully, yet there was always someone dragging him into messy situations. Thankfully, he was not fully involved yet. He could still choose to step back and avoid this trouble.
As for the alchemists who had been enslaved by the Holy Son, Leyvi decided he would leave that matter to Senior Lapin. He could leak the information to the nearest law enforcement officers so they could be rescued.
He had already avenged his panda wife. That was enough. He would not get involved any further.
His plan remained simple. Marry Caterina, propose to Barbara about a year later, and then enter seclusion. He would finally focus seriously on his cultivation and avoid going out for a long time.
He truly wanted to mind his own business from now on.
